Anime Thoughts: Tokyo Ghoul:Re [2018 Anime]

A wonderful piece of work ruined.

The whole season (Episode 1 to 24) did not have the right pacing, plot points were not explained, and viewers are automatically assumed to know everything that was going on. As someone who read the manga before watching this, even I had trouble connecting what was happening to what I knew about the story already (maybe it's just me).

The art style has also changed dramatically from the original Tokyo Ghoul and √A, which I personally do not mind; except this new art style makes everyone look slightly different, which although not a serious issue, was something that bothered me nonetheless.

The music for this series is also mediocre in my opinion, sure the OP and ED does kind of fit with the show, but with music expectations so high because of the first season of Tokyo Ghoul, this did not compare. In addition, the music used within the show itself I feel were not well utilised and can definitely be used better; music didn't really enhance the mood and event currently happening, instead feels out of place and extra sometimes.

On the bright side, I can see that Studio Pierrot really tried to follow the source material, everything that happened also occured in the manga. However, it was honestly quite badly executed, the whole story was rushed and large story arcs were condensed into short scenes. Fight scenes were also badly done, you can barely see anything going on when all that is happening is a bunch of smoke and puffs.

Overall, I feel this anime can definitely be much better, and hopefully another studio picks it up and takes their time to animate the whole series with better pacing and everything.

Yes, the whole review is quite negative, but these are my thoughts, feel free to comment on anything and thank you for reading!
